Ridge Augmentation
Dental implants are highly successful depending on the amount and strength of the bone that is left after a patient experiences tooth loss. If a tooth or many teeth have been missing for a while, the bone that remains deteriorates, making it more challenging to place a dental implant in the empty space. Sometimes, not enough bone is left to safely place the implant.
Luckily, the experts here at Alexander M. Mazratian, DDS, M.Ed. and our amazing Dr. Alexander Mazratian provide a Ridge Augmentation Bone Graft to help restore missing bone so that your dental implants can be placed properly. Depending on the severity of your bone loss, a ride augmentation may be performed prior to the implant placement or done at the same time as the implant placement procedure. Every case is unique.
How do Ridge Augmentations Work?
During a ridge augmentation, supplementary bone is placed under your gum tissue in the area where your old bone deteriorated. Usually we use bottled bone obtained from a tissue bank so that we do not have to take bones from other areas of your body. This technique has been used in dentistry for decades and is extremely safe.
As the ridge augmentation heals, it tells your body to grow new bone in the area that needs it. Over a course of 3-6 months, your body uses the grafted bone as a blueprint and turns it into your own bone to produce enough new bone to support your dental implants.
